In the wake of the massive outcry against the West Bengal government over the police firing in Nandigram, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Friday held a meeting with top administrative and police officials to review the overall situation.

The state government's stand on land acquisition for industries and the Nandigram police firing on March 14 is understood to have figured at the meeting.

There was no official briefing. Refusing to divulge what transpired at the meeting, Home Secretary P R Roy said, "Why should I disclose it to the media?"

Besides the home secretary, the meeting, was attended by Chief Secretary A K Deb, DGP A B Vohra, IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia, ADG (CID) Sujit Sarkar, SP (Hooghly district) S Sarkar and Industry Secretary Sabyasachi Sen.

Roy said the chief secretary requested the CBI to expedite the inquiry into the death of Tapasi Malik, whose burnt body was recovered on December 18 from land acquired for the Tata small car project in Singur.

To a question, Roy said the administration did not anticipate any law and order problem in Singur on March 25 when the Trinamool Congress was scheduled to hold a rally there.

"Adequate security has been arranged at Singur," he said.
