The local administration in Nagpur has decided to send 17 medical teams to assist in relief operations in flood-hit areas of Maharashtra.
Each team, headed by a doctor, comprises an assistant doctor and three paramedical personnel. The teams will be sent by local hospitals and voluntary organisations.
Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC), the local branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) and N K P Salve Institute of Medical Sciences will send four teams each, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) will send three, while Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the local branch of Indian Red Cross Society will send one team each to the affected areas.
Besides, the local administration will also send five ambulances and one mobile dispensary van to the affected areas. The Vidarbha Drug Manufacturers Association will provide the necessary medicines.
These teams will be in the affected areas for six days and will be deployed as per requirements and directions of the state government.
The decision to send the teams was made at a meeting of senior officials and representatives of voluntary organisations summoned by Divisional Commissioner Anand Limaye here on Thursday.
