A Bharatiya Janata Party MLA in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday demanded that the Centre adopt a “proactive policy” and allow the army to carry out a Myanmar-type operation against the terrorist training camps across the Line of Control.

“In the recent days, there have been inputs by the intelligence agencies that the militants, who earlier were being trained by the Inter-Services Intelligence and the Pakistani Army, are now being trained by members of terror outfits like the Islamic State,” Ravinder Raina, the BJP MLA from Sunderbani, said.

“The Islamic State has already entered the training camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir as they have made a major base in neighbouring Afghanistan” and its members are training the militants in the PoK camps, he claimed.

“As you know that a few days ago, the Indian Army entered Myanmar and destroyed the terror infrastructure there. Now the army must replicate the same and enter PoK and destroy the terrorist infrastructure in that region,” he said.

The BJP legislator asserted “the Indian Army is capable of carrying out such an operation in PoK, but India needs to adopt a proactive policy”.

“Army should be allowed to enter PoK and destroy the training camps set up by Pakistan. The army must destroy them the same way it destroyed the camps in Myanmar and we know that the Indian Army has the power to do so,” he said.

“The need of the hour is to adopt a political will and the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is capable to take such decisions.

“The need of the hour is to show willpower, political willpower, the government in Delhi has that willpower and I feel that they must make a proactive policy to take such action,” he said.

Raina’s demands come a day after army said that terror outfit Islamic State was trying to gain foothold in PoK.

General Officer Commanding, 16 Corps, Lt Gen K H Singh had on Friday said there were inputs that the IS was trying to gain foothold in PoK.

“Whatever inputs we have, IS has not taken in a major way, but they are definitely trying to gain foothold in the area,” Gen Singh had told reporters.
