Can't give MARCOS for anti-terror hubs: Navy

January 16, 2009 18:53 IST

The navy on Friday said it will not be able to spare its Marine Commando force for any of the anti-terror hubs to be created in major cities. The navy said the commandos can provide training to other forces.

Navy chief admiral Sureesh Mehta said, "We can send the MARCOS whenever they are required to be deployed as it happened in Mumbai. They will be there to assist the civil authority."

On the security of uninhabited islands in the Arabian Sea, the Mehta said, "Uninhabited islands are looked after jointly by all the concerned agencies. We work together to make sure that these things are not allowed to become festering wounds. The local administration and the stations set up there have the responsibility to go there."

On the two Pakistani fishing boats seized near Gujarat coast, he said, "The Coast Guard is interrogating the suspected men and we will soon come to know how they crossed over into our waters and what is to be done with them."
