Mumbai Deputy Municipal Commissioner Rokade suspended

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Chandrashekhar Rokade has been suspended by Municipal Commissioner Subodh Kumar following his arrest on September 9 by the anti-corruption bureau of Mumbai.

Though DMC Rokade was granted bail by the sessions court on Monday, he was in custody for more than 48 hours thus mandating his suspension under the service code for government officials. The Anti-corruption Bureau had written to the municipal commissioner informing about the arrest along with relevant court orders on Monday.

Rokade who was in-charge of removal of encroachment for Mumbai was arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a civic contractor who supplied transport vehicles to his department. The money was found inside the toilet in his office.

Rokade a former deputy commissioner of police had left the police service to join the municipal corporation of greater Mumbai as a deputy municipal commissioner. He was projected by the civic body as the replacement to G R Khairnar the original 'demolition man'. Rokade till his arrest by the ACB has maintained an image of a clean and honest officer.
