Mumbai court extends terror suspects' remand

The police custody of two arrested terror suspects -- Abdul Latif Rashid and Riyaz Ali Imtiaz -- was extended till March 24 by a Mumbai court on Thursday.

Rashid alias Guddu and Imtiaz alias Rehan, residents of suburban Bandra and Dahisar respectively, were arrested on Saturday last by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly planning terror attacks in the metropolis.

They were in police custody till Thursday and were produced before the Mazgaon

court, where the ATS sought their further remand to interrogate them and ascertain the identity of the 'uncle', who was instructing them from Pakistan.

The duo had conducted a recce of three targets -- headquarters of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Thakkar Mall in suburban Mumbai and Mangaldas Market in South Mumbai, police have said.

They were apprehended after the Intelligence Bureau intercepted suspicious phone calls allegedly between the two and the 'uncle' in Pakistan.
