Mahendra Pratap Singh, secretary to the late Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia, was arrested by the Gwalior police on Tuesday in compliance with a non-bailable warrant issued against him and 15 others under the Madhya Pradesh Anti-dacoity Act.

Soon after his arrest, M P Singh was produced before Fifth Additional District Judge R K Verma, who had issued the warrant under section 11/13 of the act on July 15 on a petition by Chitralekha Angre, daughter of the late Vijayaraje Scindia's political secretary, S C Angre, Gwalior Inspector General of Police M R Krishna said.

Chitralekha had accused 16 people, including Madhavrao and former Madhya Pradesh minister K P Singh, of dacoity at Hiranvat Kothi in Jai Vilas Palace campus in Gwalior in 1983.

After several raids at the residences of the other accused, the police declared them absconding, Krishna said, adding that "if they remain untraced till July 31, the deadline set by the court, fresh warrants might be issued against them".
