Moily denies giving favours to get funds for his trust

Refuting allegation of misusing position to get corporate funding for his family-run NGO, Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily on Wednesday said he had at no point extended any help or favour to any company for seeking aid.

He said ITC had approached his family-run Kisan Sabha Trust which runs an educational institution providing free-of-cost education to school drop outs, for providing grant from its CSR funds.

"Before accepting their proposal, I checked-up if any of their (ITC's) proposal was pending in ministry. After checking for 4-5 months, we found nothing was pending and no favours can be done if the grant is accepted," Moily said here.

Moily was corporate affairs minister when ITC made the offer.

It’s after thorough checking that "I instructed my son (Harsha) that there is nothing pending in the Ministry and ITC offer can be accepted," he said.

Moily said the organisation was created in 1968 when he was not even an MLA. The Trust has been since 1992 running Mahatma Gandhi Residential High School (MGRHS) which provides free education along with boarding and lodging to school dropouts.

“We ran the institution for 10-15 years from our pocket," he said.
