Congress compares Modi with Hilter

May 02, 2008 09:38 IST

Three Union Ministers and senior Congress leaders on Thursday compared Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi with Adolf Hitler and accused him of misleading the people with regard to the Centre's assistance for the development of the state.

Union Minister of Textiles Shankarsinh Vaghala compared Modi to Hitler and said, "When the leaders of the United Kingdom used to say anything to Hitler, he used to tell the people of Germany that the UK is insulting them. In the same way, when anything is said to Modi, he tells people of Gujarat that they have been insulted."

Asking Congress workers not to be depressed in the wake of the defeat in the last assembly elections, Vaghala said, "There is a saying in English language, 'this time will also pass'. We should keep this in mind and start working to win the Lok Sabha elections."

"Bluff works for sometime and it has been working for him in the state at present. It will not work for eternity," Union Minster for Food and Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahay said while addressing Congress workers in Gandhinagar.

"The progress that Gujarat has achieved is due to the hard work of the Gujarati people and Central aid. The United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre has given much to the state, but the state government has not been able to make this financial assistance reach to the people," Sahay said.

Another Union Minister of State Dinsha Patel, who holds the Petroleum portfolio, said, "We have to fight against liars and their lies."

"I only remember Modi for falsehood. Only lies are being circulated in the state," Dinsha  said.

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Bharatsinh Solanki, without naming Modi, accused him of taking all the credit for the development of the state.

Giving details about the role of Congress leaders in the movement of formation of Gujarat state, Solanki said that the former Congress chief ministers of the state have contributed a lot for the development.

"Here some people are trying to take all the credit for the development of the state," he said.
