Branding Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a 'killer', social activists and members of some NGOs led by Nafisa Ali on Monday staged a demonstration in a five-star hotel where Modi was to address the World Economic Forum.

But an unfazed Modi went ahead to participate as special guest in the plenary session despite noisy protests.

Shouting slogans like 'Modi go back', they alleged he was responsible for the killings in the communal violence in the state last year and the organisers had no business to invite the chief minister.

The protestors shouted when Modi had come to chair the plenary session titled The Competitiveness of States: Sharing Best Practices.

They said it was 'shameful' that Modi was asked to be a special guest at a session, which dealt with best practices.

The organiser Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) has acted with little sensitivity while inviting Modi, they said.

"I have been invited by WEF as a social entrepreneur but the presence of Modi, that too in a session which deals with best practices, is too much... I cannot tolerate this," Vijay Mahajan of Basix India said.

Echoing his sentiments, Ali went around carrying a placard which said, "Do not decorate Modi. Prosecute him. The chief minister of a state should not be polarised."

In the midst of noisy scenes, Ali was seen urging Bajaj Auto's Rahul Bajaj to join the protest but he declined. As Modi continued with the session, the activists raised slogans against Delhi Police and other security agencies, which disbursed them.
