Modi will be BJP's face against Nitish in Bihar polls

June 16, 2015 12:00 IST

It is official now. Narendra Modi will be the face of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the upcoming Bihar assembly polls against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Ananth Kumar, the BJP election in-charge of Bihar, on Tuesday announced that the party will not declare the name of its chief ministerial candidate.

"BJP's face is Narendra Modi and the party will contest the upcoming Bihar assembly polls in his name and under his leadership," Ananth Kumar, who is also Union minister for chemicals and fertilizers, told media persons soon after he arrived in Patna.

He said that party had, over the last year, contested assembly polls by projecting Modi.

Downplaying the repeated demand of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and Nitish to the BJP to declare its chief ministerial candidate, he said: "The BJP has several capable leaders for the top post."
