May 25, 2012 22:24 IST

As Narendra Modi appeared to be gaining a strong grip in BJP, former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurrappa said the Gujarat Chief Minister should be projected as the party's prime ministerial candidate.

Yeddyurappa, who has his own axe to grind with the party leadership, said the "entire country wants our Narendra Modiji" as future prime minister.

"That is why I am of the opinion that Narendra Modi should be projected as the Prime Minister in making," he told reporters, adding he would be making such a "request".

Yeddhyurappa, who had to quit as Karnataka chief minister in the wake of allegations of wrongoings, has been unhappy with BJP leader L K Advani as he feels he was supporting his rivals in the party.

On his personal fate, the senior BJP leader from Karnataka said "I am not worried about any post for me. I am worried about my state's development".
