Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that Prithvi and Agni strategic missile systems had been inducted into the armed forces along with their variants.

Besides this, the development of the Akash and Trishul surface-to-air missiles and Nag anti-tank missile had also been completed. India's integrated Guided Missile Development Programme, which was initiated in 1983, comprised of five missiles -- Agni, Prithvi, Akash, Trishul and Nag.

Mukherjee, however, clarified that there was no submarine-launched missile project named Sagarika as had been suggested in some reports.

In a written reply, the minister also informed the House that the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile had completed successful flight trials for the Navy and Army from ships and mobile land platforms respectively.
