MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi gets bail in assault case

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who was remanded to judicial custody in connection with an assault case, was granted bail on Thursday.

The Sanga Reddy court, which heard his plea, granted him bail on the condition that he cooperate with the investigation.

Owaisi was booked for obstructing a government employee from doing his work. The case was registered in 2005 but an arrest warrant was issued recently, following which he surrendered before the court.

He was later remanded to judicial custody.

Owaisi is likely to be released on Thursday itself after production of bail orders before the jail authorities, sources said.

The 5th Additional District Judge court in Sangareddy town of Medak district allowed Asaduddin's bail plea and directed him to furnish a personal bond for Rs 10,000 and two sureties of like amount.

The defence had submitted that Asaduddin had to attend a conference in Hyderabad on January 25.

The Judicial First Class Magistrate and Prohibition and Excise Court had earlier dismissed two of Asaduddin's bail petitions.

The case was registered on a complaint by a revenue official, that Asaduddin, his younger brother and party Member of Legislative Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi (presently in jail at Adilabad district in connection to an alleged hate speech) and others protested the demolition of a place of worship at Muttangi village near Patancheru, during a road widening work of the Hyderabad-Mumbai National Highway.

They had allegedly engaged in heated arguments with the then Medak district collector A K Singhal and other officers during the protest. The Owaisi brothers had allegedly pushed the Collector.

The Owaisi brothers had failed to appear before the court, after which a non-bailable warrant was issued against them.

Owaisi brothers and others were booked under sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 147 (rioting), 186 (obstructing public servant while discharging duties) and seven other sections of the Indian Penal Code.
