Militants kill two CRPF jawans in Valley

Two paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force troopers were killed in a militant strike in north Kashmir's Pattan town on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway on Wednesday morning.

A senior police officer said militants fired at the CRPF troopers from a close range, resulting in on-the-spot death of a trooper while another hit in the head was taken to hospital for treatment where he succumbed.

He said the two troopers were part of a patrol party of 154 batallion of the CRPF when militants fired at them from a close range in the Pattan main market.

"The area has been surrounded for searches," the officer said.

Police sources said militants escaped along with the weapons of the two troopers.

This is the first militant strike in the town after a long gap as the Valley which witnessed large scale violence in past five months leaving 112 persons dead and hundreds others wounded.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
