One militant was killed and five people, including two cops, were injured in a triple militant strike in north Kashmir's Sopore town on Saturday.
A senior police officer said militants hurled a grenade, which exploded near the office of Sopore Police Chief Imtiyaz Ahmad, injuring two cops and three civilians.
The injured were evacuated to the nearby hospital for treatment.
Militants then opened fire at a local police station in the town. Retaliating to the gunfire, policemen gunned down a militant while others managed to escape. Nobody was injured in the firing.
The fleeing militants also opened fire near Shalpora in the town.
Authorities have mounted security in the town and searches are being undertaken in the area.
Meanwhile, Kashmir valley experienced season's first overnight snowfall, ending the long dry spell.
Though the snowfall was moderate in Srinagar, north and south Kashmir received good snowfall.
