Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon on Wednesday met United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns along with key Congressional leaders and discussed bilateral issues.

Menon is currently on a four day official-visit, to meet top officials of Obama Administration -- the first such interaction with the new US government.

Among key Congressional leaders, the Foreign Secretary met included Jim McDermott, co-chair of the India caucus at the Congress; Howard L Berman, Chairman of House Committee on Foreign Affairs; and Senator Richard Lugar, Ranking Member of the powerful Senate Committee on International Relations.

The details of the meeting between the Indian Foreign Secretary and top state department official Nicholas Burns were not immediately available.

At the State Department, Menon had a meeting with William Burns, the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. He also met members of Washington-based think tanks.
