Asma Jahangir has stepped down as former Pakistan envoy Husain Haqqani's lawyer in the Memogate scandal, expressing lack of confidence in the country's Supreme Court's judges and the judicial commission formed to probe the issue.

Amsa's associate in the Memo case advocate Muhammad Idrees confirmed the former has refused to appear before the commission.

The revelation comes in the wake of the first judicial commission meeting in connection with the Memo probe, the Daily Times reports.

Asma had expressed apprehensions that the Inter-Services Intelligence might influence the judicial commission to give a verdict against her client, Haqqani, and that she has already estimated the commission's findings.

She said that the Supreme Court did gross injustice to her client Haqqani by confiscating his basic rights.

"I doubt that the judges will take statement of my client according to their will, as they are working under establishment. He was also threatened at the time of 'arrest'. I told the court but it did not pay any heed towards it," she added.

She had earlier termed Pakistan's Supreme Court's decision to declare the memo case as maintainable as unfortunate because it placed civilian authority under the army.
