The Bombay High Court directed actor Shahrukh Khan, Maharashtra government and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Wednesday to file affidavits in response to two public interest litigations, questioning the construction that is allegedly being carried out by Khan on a plot adjacent to his bungalow in suburban Bandra.
The court has adjourned the hearing on both the petitions till December 7, to enable the respondents to file their replies.
One of the petitions, filed by Cyril Mecwan, states that the actor should be restrained from developing the plot adjacent to his bungalow, which is a heritage structure, as it would violate a host of laws regarding preservation of heritage buildings. It also challenges dereservation of the plot, which was originally reserved for an art gallery.
The other petition, filed by Bhrashtachar Nirmoolan Samiti, a non-governmental organisation, also raises the same issue, saying that construction on this plot will violate heritage laws. The court hasn't yet admitted this petition.
Mecwan, in his petition, has objected to renaming of the bungalow as Mannat by Khan, saying this, too, violates the law.
Khan is constructing a building on this plot as an extension of Mannat. The bungalow was earlier owned by a Parsi couple. It hit the headlines when the actor bought it, reportedly for a huge sum.
