There were fresh protests in Manipur on Friday against the state government's decision to withdraw the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 from the Imphal municipal area.

Hundreds of protestors demanding full withdrawal of the act from the state pelted stones and destroyed a bus at Singjamei area, near Imphal.

They also blocked roads at some places.

Meanwhile, the working committee of the 32 organisations spearheading the agitation said in a statement there was "now no question of going back" and that they would continue the agitation till the act was fully withdrawn from the state.

A 'human chain' will be organised across Manipur on August 15 to press for the lifting of the act, which gives extra powers to security forces.

The state has seen protests ever since the death of a 32-year-old woman, Thangjam Manorama, on July 11.

Manorama -- who the army says was a member of the banned People's Liberation Army -- was found dead with torture marks all over her body hours after she was arrested by the troops of 17 Assam Rifles.
