To commemorate the 86th birthday of South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela, country's main Afrikaan language newspaper, Beeld, will bring out a special issue on Friday, which will be edited by the Nobel laureate himself.

The editor of the newspaper, Peet Kruger, said the newspaper wanted to do something special for South Africa's most famous son and decided to invite him to be the editor of the newspaper for a day.

"He agreed. Basically in Friday's edition, a section of the paper will have articles highlighting certain people he appreciates and their ideas. Business leader Cyril Ramaphosa, poet Elizabeth Eybers and human rights lawyer George Bizos" are the persons Mandela wanted to know about. He would also like to read more about ordinary South Africans making a difference to the lives of others.
