West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya said on Thursday that he would continue to appeal to Trinamool Congress chief Mamta Banerjee to give up her indefinite fast on the Singur issue.

"That is the only way. There will be no police action," Bhattacharya said.

Bhattacharya said that he spoke to senior TC leader Saugata Roy who was at Baidyabati to participate in a 'March to Singur' programme and enquired about police behaviour.

"Roy informed me that there was no problem," the chief minister said.

Bhattacharya said that Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi had on Wednesday night asked him whether he should talk to Banerjee, whose fast entered the fourth day on Thursday, and was given the go ahead.

"I told him to talk and convince Banerjee. But he could not convince her," Bhattacharya said.
