Make full report of Srikrishna Committee public: BJP

May 29, 2011 19:57 IST
Alleging that the Congress lacks the political will to carve out a separate Telangana, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday demanded that the full content of the Srikrishna Committee report on formation of the state be made public.

After a meeting of Joint Action Committee on Telangana here, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman -- who attended the meeting -- questioned why there was secrecy about the Srikrishna Committee report.

"Why is there so much secrecy about chapter eight of the report. The full report should be released," she said. She maintained that the Committee did not have the mandate to make the suggestions it has reportedly made in chapter eight.

"A political decision has to be taken on this issue. The BJP has always stood for the formation of Telangana. The Congress party does not have the political will to form Telangana," the party spokesperson said.

The Joint Action Committee on Telangana is constituted by four parties namely the BJP, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Communist Party of India and the Congress. Sitaraman said during meetings the Congress has either staged a walkout or disrupted proceedings.
