If Modi loses in Varanasi, none will make him PM: Kejriwal

April 16, 2014 00:45 IST

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said if the people of Varanasi defeat Narendra Modi in the elections then no one will make him the next prime minister.

During an open interaction with the electorate in Varanasi, Kejriwal said, "If the people defeat Modi in Varanasi, then no one will make him the Prime Minister of the country... And moreover the BJP will also get finished."

"Loser from Varanasi seat, Modi will not be made PM by anyone," he repeated.

The AAP chief asked the people "if you Varanasi people make Modi win then what will you get, and if you make him lose from here then what will you get?"

"...just after the polls conclude on May 16, then the next day on 17th Modi will leave for Vadodara. And then just after one month he will vacate this seat and will go back to retain his Vadodara seat.

"And If you people make him lose from here then a 'maha-kranti' (massive revolution) will take place and the politics of honesty will resurrect from this Varanasi city," he said.

"People are saying here that if Modi becomes Prime Minister then he will make a lot of development of the city... There have been many prime ministers in the country and had they carried out developments in their constituencies... I ask the people here if they (former PMs) could not do so, then will Modi do it?" he said.

"(Jawaharlal) Nehru became PM from Phoolpur and Allahabad constituencies, what developments had he done there... Charan Singh, Indra Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Atalji became PM, had they made developments in their constituencies, has Atalji made any development of Lucknow?" he asked.

Kejriwal asked the people not to get befooled by Modi.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader, accompanied by his family members, today arrived in the holy city for a month-long campaign.

He also trained his guns on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.

Kejriwal said Rahul Gandhi will lose the election from Amethi to AAP's Kumar Vishwas by nearly two lakh votes, and urged the people of Varanasi to defeat Modi by a huge margin.

He said he hasn't come to Varanasi with a wish to become a member of Parliament, but to root out corruption in the prevailing political system.

He said that he was the only person who could gather the courage to go against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by exposing Robert Vadra's alleged land scams.

"Even (BJP leaders) Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley knew this matter even before me but Congress fixed with them, so they never exposed this," Kejriwal claimed.

During a question-answer session, Kejriwal was asked about his party's economic and foreign policies. He said he has only two words "Imandar Rajneeti (honest politics)".

"...The country's development is not done by government, but the people... If there is honesty then there will be no unemployment, industry and business will flourish even growth in the farming sector would be seen," he said.

On a question on reservation, Kejriwal said just giving reservation to the people would not be sufficient in getting result, first of all "we have to ensure that all government schools function properly, then only people belonging each and every sections of the society may get proper education".

Kejriwal said if his government comes to power then all government schools will be made as such that they function even better than private ones.

Asked why he didn't take public opinion before quitting as the Delhi CM, Kejriwal said, "Yes, it was his mistake that before quitting I didn't take the public opinion... From next time I will be careful for this."

Meanwhile, Kejriwal today went to slums in Maldahiya area of the city to meet the family members of Dalit youth Pawan Kumar, who died last week while cleaning sewer.

He also wrote letters to the District Civic Chief and commissioner seeking action against those responsible for the youth's death.

He alleged that crores of rupees have been spent for cleaning the Ganga river, but water pollution is rising and its condition getting abysmal day by day.
