AAP questions EC's clean chit to Rahul

May 11, 2014 17:58 IST

Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas on Sunday questioned the clean chit given to Rahul Gandhi by the Election Commission on the allegation that he had violated secrecy of voting by entering the enclosure of EVM in one of the polling booths in Amethi.

Vishwas, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections against Rahul from the constituency, in a Tweet alleged that even though Rahul was found entering the polling booths, no action was taken by the Election Commission.

"Uttar Pradesh ke Chunav Aayukt ne Rahul ko Doshi bhi paya aaur kisi bhi karyawahi se inkaar kar diya. Kya yeh Insaf hai (Is this justice)," Vishwas said.

The Election Commission on Saturday gave a clean chit to Gandhi on the allegation that he had violated secrecy of voting by entering the enclosure of the Electronic Voting Machine in one of the polling booths in Amethi on May 7.

"Gandhi had gone to see the machine which was not working. When he went there, there was no polling going on. No case is made out," Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath had said.

There was huge controversy when on May 8 newspapers carried pictures of Gandhi examining an EVM and coming out of the polling booth sparking demands that EC should take action against him.
