The family of 14-year-old Akash, who was kidnapped on way to school on August 10 last year, has received a ransom letter for his safe release even as the Bihar police continued to grope in the dark about his whereabouts.

The boy's father, Yogendra Pandey, said he found the ransom letter demanding Rs 10 lakh stuck to the main door of his residence in Patna on Sunday.

The receipt of the letter was confirmed by city superintendent of police Anwar
Hussain.

"The letter claimed that Akash was safe and was in the custody of kidnappers. I have secured a copy of the letter as senior superintendent of police Amit Kumar asked me to inquire into its authenticity," he said.

It's been nearly eight months since Akash, a class nine student of DAV Public School, was kidnapped. The state police had then announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to those giving information about the boy's whereabouts
