Haryana police has arrested the driver of the tanker from which the chemical gas Bromein leaked late Thursday evening following which 19 persons took ill near Liberty Chowk on the outskirt of Karnal.

A senior district officer told PTI in Karnal on Friday that the driver Hari Dutt has been arrested on the charge of negligence causing leakage of the gas. A case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered in connection with the gas leak.

He said that out of the 19 who were brought to the local civil hospital after they complained of nausea and breathlessness, only four were undergoing treatment.

They were expected to be discharged by Friday evening, he said. Four of those brought to the civil hospital were discharged Thursday night while 11 were discharged later following improvement in their condition. The tanker was going to Dera Bassi in Punjab.
