In a major embarrassment to Tamil Nadu Governor and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah, an Anti-Corruption Bureau court in Hyderabad has issued a summon to him. He has been asked to be present in the court on August 2 in a land case.
Rosaiah, during his tenure as the CM, had denotified a prime land of 9.14 acres in the Ameerpet area of Hyderabad in favour of a private party. He is one of the 13 accused in the case.
The Ameerpet land issue had come in to focus after an advocate Mohanlal filed a case in the Anti-Corruption Bureau case in 2010 alleging that by denotifying the 9.4 acres of land in favour of a private party K Rosaiah had caused a loss of Rs 200 crore to the state exchequer.
On the direction of the court, the Anti-Corruption Bureau had taken up the probe in the case, but in March 2011 it submitted a report giving a clean chit to the former CM. The agency told the court that no evidence could be found against Rosaiah.
However, the petitioner filed a protest petition against the ACB's report after which the court decided to examine all the witnesses. Subsequently the court recorded the statements of top officials, CVSK Sharma, the then principal secretary to the CM, B P Acharya, the then commissioner of Hyderabad Metropolitan Authority and TS Appa Rao, the then secretary, municipal administration and urban development.
The land originally belonged to the HMDA but after the decision to denotify it, the land was sold to a private party.
