July 16, 2011 23:17 IST
A minor girl, who was allegedly gangraped by her teacher and five others, committed suicide in Chhitaunia village in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The girl, an intermediate student, committed suicide on the night of July 10 and in the suicide note she said that she was thrashed by the public after the incident that occurred during the day, the police said on Saturday.

"A postmortem was conducted on the girl's body and she was buried. However, her body was exhumed on Saturday after her parents demanded a second postmortem," Superintendent of Police Amit Chandra said.

This incident comes more than a month after a teenage girl was raped and murdered inside a police station in the district, sparking national outrage.

The police lodged a first information report under various IPC sections implicating the school teacher Anu Verma, the husband of the Chhitaunia village head and four others.

"Three of the accused have been taken into custody for interrogation while the accused school teacher is absconding. We are trying to nab him," the SP said. "We have asked for re-examination of her post mortem. A panel of doctors will look into it," he added.

The Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh has been under fire for a series of incidents of rape.
