Konkan rail traffic down as protection wall breaks

June 17, 2011 11:03 IST

Traffic on the Konkan railway route was severely affected on Friday after a protection wall collapsed on the tracks near Nivar station in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, officials said.

The Konkan region is witnessing incessant rains for the past three days which has resulted in the collapse of the protection wall, built recently.

Konkan Railway Corporation Limited's Public Relation Manager Baban Ghatge said trains have been stopped at various stations and work to clear off debris from the track was on.

Mumbai-bound trains were stopped at various stations in Goa while those arriving in the state were halted at Ratnagiri station due to the incident.

KRCL is making arrangement of buses to transport passengers from Ratnagiri to Goa, Ghatge said.
