Kolkata: Sudipta's family to meet governor today

April 05, 2013 15:19 IST

The family of Students’ Federation of India leader Sudipta Gupta wants to meet the West Bengal Governor M K Naryayanan to seek justice, Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra said on Friday. The governor has granted an appointment at 5 pm on Friday.

"They want to meet the governor. They said they have no faith in the state police and want a judicial or the Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the death of Sudipta," Mishra told reporters in Kolkata after meeting Sudipta's family at their residence.

Sudipta's sister demanded a CBI inquiry into the death of her brother.

"We want justice. I still hope that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will look into it. She said it was an accident and a petty matter. My brother was in police custody and was killed by the police. We want a CBI probe. We will go to the governor," she told reporters.

The Left and the Congress had earlier demanded judicial inquiry into the SFI leader's death.

Slamming Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her comments about the student's death, State Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya said that judicial probe was not an unjustified demand.
