Last updated on: February 16, 2012 18:40 IST
Two persons were detained in connection with the alleged rape of a Anglo-Indian woman in a car in Kolkata even as the police said there were inconsistencies in her statements on the suspects.

One of the five occupants of the car named by the woman as L Gidwani was in Canada since January 2 as revealed by the immigration department, Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Damayanti Sen told a press conference in Kolkata on Thursday.

The woman had filed a complaint alleging she was raped while returning from a nightclub on Park Street in central Kolkata on February 5 and the police did not cooperate with her. "There are some inconsistencies in the woman's statements," Sen said, adding two persons were detained but it was yet to be ascertained if they were present at the time of alleged crime.

The victim, who reported the alleged rape in the car at gunpoint four days after the crime, was also thoroughly questioned on Wednesday, she said.

Asked about the alleged misbehaviour by police officers at Park Street police station when she when to lodge the complaint on February 9, Sen said that the joint commissioner of police (traffic) would investigate the complaint. She said that medico-legal test report by forensic experts was awaited.

Commissioner of Kolkata Police R K Pachnanda has asked for a detailed probe into the incident, she said. "We have collected some documents and are examining all aspects," Sen said.
