Karnit Shah went missing from the premises of his building 'Pranik Garden' while playing on April 6 following which his family members had registered a missing person's complaint, they said. It was later upgraded as a kidnapping case after preliminary investigation.
"Karnit has been traced in Uttar Pradesh. He is safe and sound and is being brought to Mumbai," Deputy Police Commissioner Mahesh Patil told PTI. When asked if the kidnappers were also arrested, he refused to comment saying that investigations are underway.
Karnit's grandfather Chandrakant Shah said, "We are very thankful to the police who have put tremendous efforts to trace my grandson. A policeman called us in the morning and told us that my grandson has been traced in Uttar Pradesh and they are on their way with him to Mumbai in a flight."
Soon after Karnit went missing, his family members had declared a reward of Rs 2 lakh to anyone helping them find the boy. The boy's father had also used social networking site Facebook to trace his son back. The police had also released the sketches of the suspect.
The grandfather said the family had received some calls from unidentified people who demanded money saying that Karnit was with them. "But later they did not call again so we are not sure if they were the same persons whose sketches were released," he added.
