Kerala court to hear plea for probe against ex-CJI's kin

January 20, 2011 17:02 IST

A fresh petition seeking a probe into alleged amassing of wealth by relatives of former chief justice of India and National Human Rights Commission Chairman K G Balakrishnan has been posted for Friday by a special judge.

An earlier petition filed by George Vattukulam, state president of Kerala Malayala Vedi (forum), came up before the court on Friday, which rejected it on technical grounds as there was no spare copy of the petition.

The petitioner brought it to the notice of the judge, V Jayaram, that he had submitted the spare copy with the petition and handed it over to him.

The judge then directed the petitioner to submit it to the court office and file a fresh petition in two weeks.

Vattukulam, however, submitted another fresh petition along with the spare copy and the case has been posted for Friday.

The petitioner had alleged that Justice Balakrishnan, his brother K G Bhaskaran and son-in-law P V Sreenijan had amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.

Last week, the judge had observed that Balakrishnan would not come under the court's jurisdiction and directed Vattukulam to submit a fresh petition, removing his name from the list of respondents.

Facing allegations, Bhaskran had resigned as government pleader in the Kerala high court, while Sreenijan quit his Youth Congress membership.
