Kerala Chief Minister and Communist Party of India-Marxist veteran V S Achuthanandan does not have any movable or immovable assets, according to the affidavit filed by him as part of his election nomination papers for April 13 assembly polls in the state.
Achuthanandan submitted that he had cash in hand of Rs 3,000 and Rs 80,295 as bank deposits.
The total income of the 87-year-old leader, who entered the fray from Malampuzha segment on Thursday, was shown as Rs 3,43,994 as per the income tax returns filed for 2009-10.
Achuthanandan, who hails from Punnapra North in Alappuzha district, did not inherit or acquire any property, according to the asset details.
His wife Vasumathy, a state service pensioner, owns 10 cents of land at Paravoor in Alappuzha district, purchased in 1982 at a price of Rs 18,000, which has a current market value of Rs 1 lakh. She also has gold ornaments of 100 grams valued at Rs 1,96,000.
Vasumathy has Rs 10,000 as cash-in-hand and Rs 5,70,635 as bank deposits and holds share of Rs 5,000 in the Malayalam Communications, which runs the pro-CPM Kairali TV channel.
