Kashmir: Youth arrested for threatening all-girl rock band

February 07, 2013 04:35 IST

The J&K police, late on Wednesday evening, picked up a youngster they allege was involved in posting abusive threats to the all-girl band ‘Pragaash’.

The band, which comprised of three minor girls, has already called quits following the fatwa by Kashmir’s grand mufti, Mufti Bashir-ud-Din.

Following the threats to the band, the Jammu and Kashmir police had formed a special investigation team to probe the threats to the girls.

An FIR was lodged at Rajbagh on Monday and an investigation was launched on the orders of state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is also the home minister of the state.

Three girls formed a band named ‘Pragaash’ meaning morning light last year and had performed in capital Srinagar in December in the ‘petal of bands’ competition where they finished third.

One of the three girls has already left the valley while two others have refused to speak to the media after announcing the disbanding of the group.

The girls had on Tuesday said they were quitting in deference to the fatwa issued by the Mufti.

They have refused the government’s offer for security.
