One civilian was killed and nine others wounded in a late evening grenade explosion in the Batmallo locality of summer capital Srinagar.

After a lull of over two months, militants struck as unidentified assailants lobbed a grenade at a bunker of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force in the Batmallo locality of the city near the Jammu and Kashmir police headquarters.

"The grenade hit the bunker but exploded on the road causing injuries to ten persons. One critically wounded civilian identified as Mohammad Yasin Khan died while being shifted to SMHS hospital," said a police officer.

The explosion that rocked the uptown city as it was closing after the days business rattled the locals who rushed to their homes. Traffic was suspended in the area as the roads were quickly deserted after security forces launched the searches.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
