Kerala state Congress president Ramesh Chennithala has called upon the government to conduct a detailed investigation into the violence in Kasargod on Sunday, when two Muslim League workers lost their lives.
Chennithala, in a press release, blamed the state home ministry's laxity in dealing with issues as the prime reason for the Kasargod police firing and the resultant deaths.
He also demanded that the government should order a probe by a sitting judge into the matter.
The state Congress chief said the reasons behind the stone-pelting incidents seemed suspicious and that only a probe by a sitting judge would bring out the facts.
Chennithala added that the local police should have been cautious before the rally and should have provided the district with more security, given that the place has witnessed many clashes in the last three months.
The Congress leader also called upon the government to unearth the conspiracy in the murder of a Muslim League worker, who was found with stab wounds.
Muslim League state general secretary P K Kunhalikutty has also charged the government of failing to respond to the occasion and called upon a detailed investigation into the incident.
Kunhalikutty told rediff.com over telephone that the Muslim League as a political party demanded a fair and clean investigation into the unfortunate incident.
He added that there was deep-rooted conspiracy behind the stabbing of Muslim League worker Askar.
