Member of Parliament from Karnataka Rajeev Chandrashekar has offered to bear 50 per cent of the cost of filing Public Interest Litigations for anyone with a legitimate one.

In a statement issued in Bengaluru, Chandrashekhar said, "The recent days have shown us the power of Public Interest Litigations. If you are a citizen or a group of citizens that are truly interested in creating change and want to do something more than moaning and whining, get together with groups of citizens and use the powerful tool of seeking sanction for prosecution from the chief minister of your state or the prime minister."

"Also, be prepared to take the matter up through a PIL to court. For any initiative in Bengaluru and in my state, I have promised to support 50 per cent of costs of any legitimate effort at protecting citizens rights, their neighbourhood, their city, their state."

This initiative will come as a boost to many activists and resident welfare associations in Bengaluru who may want to file PILs to protect the interests of Bangalore but may have been stopped in their tracks due to financial constraints.

The high court recently issued an interim order staying commercial projects in residential areas after a petition was filed by a resident welfare association.
