Kalmadi's rightful place is in Tihar jail: BJP

January 06, 2011 20:39 IST
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation, which grilled Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi for nine hours, to stop "playing host" to the Congress leader and said his rightful place was in jail for "indulging in corruption" in the Games' projects.

"The CBI should stop playing host to Kalmadi. His  rightful place is with Sanjay Mahindroo and T S Darbari (senior officials of Organising Committee) who are in jail," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

Kalmadi was questioned by CBI for nearly nine hours on Thursday on the Commonwealth Games anomalies.

"As everybody knows very well, no decision in the Commonwealth Games preparations was taken without Kalmadi's consent. His rightful place is in West Delhi in the famous Tihar jail," Hussain said.

The BJP had led the opposition parties in holding a debate in Parliament on the reported anomalies in Commonwealth Games preparations ahead of the event and alleged that crores of taxpayers' money was being blown up in the projects due to inflated payments and commissions.

Later, the BJP also demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the alleged scam, along with a similar probe into the 2G Spectrum allocation and Adarsh Housing Society scandals.
