January 05, 2006 20:47 IST

President A P J Abdul Kalam has said that India will be launching a youth satellite in collaboration with Russia.

Addressing the Children's Science Congress in Hyderabad on Thursday, Kalam said the government had approved the design and development of a youth satellite and its launching in collaboration with Russia. Later, this facility will be made available to other countries as well.

"The satellite will be built by universities in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organization. The youth satellite will be a communication medium among the youth of the world," he said.

"The satellite can be used by the youth to promote peace in the world, and above all creation of enlightened citizens. The student community can suggest some research experiments. The students assembled here can think of various projects which they would like to do using the youth satellite," Kalam added.
