Kalam has an advice for politicians

November 15, 2011 14:31 IST

Former President A P J Abdul Kalam asked politicians on Tuesday to involve themselves in development politics to restore public confidence in the political system of the country.

"The political system does not enjoy full confidence of the people despite the good work done over the years," he said addressing Bihar law makers at a seminar '243 Development Pillars of Bihar' at the state legislator premises.

The lawmakers should take their election to the assembly as an opportunity to deliver the goods to their electors in their individual constituencies which would help shape an economically developed, happy, prosperous and peaceful state.

Kalam suggested harnessing of agriculture productivity and marketing, attracting medium and small scale industries, promoting the tourism industry, besides mitigation of flood and water shortage and implementation of a sustained rural development system for making Bihar a developed state.

To increase agricultural output farmer cooperatives should be formed to put together small land holdings for farming through mechanized methods.

Farmers of the small holdings could be deployed in the agriculturual marketing network and create value addition to the agriculture produces and in other high growth sectors.

Besides, community managed agricultural marketing system should be set up so that farmers themselves could search to market their produces at the best price.
