Former Union human resources development minister and senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Sunday charged the UPA government with 'raping' the education system of the country under 'unwanted influence of Left ideology'.

"The UPA government under unwanted influence of Left parties wants to bring back the textbooks which depicted distorted facts like describing great Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur as 'lootera', Jats as 'dacoits' and nationalist heroes like Bhagat Singh, Chandra Sekhar Azad and Khudi Ram Bose as 'terrorists'. This is nothing but rape of our education system," he told reporters.

When pointed out that he was using foul language, Joshi said, "This word is apt to describe the UPA government's sinister design to dish out distorted and factually incorrect version of the country's history and its heroes to our children."

The former HRD minister made it clear that the BJP-ruled states would not allow the study of such texts in their states.

He lamented that for over 50 years of Independence, the younger generation were 'fed the wrong version' of history and culture of the country and when the NDA government tried to 'correct the wrongs by removing the objectionable portion' from the text books, the Left parties and Congress raised a hue and cry over it.

Earlier, Joshi had appealed to the people to launch an agitation against the UPA government's 'tinkering' with history.

He alleged that the Left, which is 'keeping the Congress-led government on tenterhooks' by providing crucial outside support, is trying to impose Marxism.
