J&K: Three LeT ultras killed

Three Pakistani ultras were gunned down and four others arrested in Jammu and Kashmir where ultras killed two civilians since Sunday night.

Also, ten improvised explosive devices were detected and defused near a railway track between Kaluchak and Bari Brahamana area of Jammu district on Monday.

Two Pakistani militants were killed in a gun battle during a raid on their hideout in Salwa area of Poonch district Sunday night, a police spokesman said on Monday.

The ultras were identified as Lashkar-e-Tayiba "area commander" Mohammad Farooq alias Abu Umer and Abu Suhail. Two AK rifles, four magazines, 44 rounds, seven grenades and a wireless set were recovered from them, he said.

In a second encounter, troops shot dead LeT "area commander" Abu Umar, also from Pakistan, in Chaki Salian area of Poonch district Sunday night. An AK assault rifle, three magazines, an under-barrel grenade launcher, a radio set and ten grenades were seized from his possession, officials said.

The spokesman said police recovered body of one Nissar Ahmad, a resident of Changer-Marwah, from riverbank of Chenab at village Hiyanan-Marwah in Doda district.

Ahmad had been kidnapped by militants from his house on May 16 and later killed, the spokesman said.

Police also recovered throat-slit body of another civilian Riyaz Ahmad Hurre from a well at Tarch-Ratnipora in Pulwama district on Sunday.

A resident of Galbugh village, the deceased was a farmer by profession and was kidnapped by militants on December 17 from his house, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said a 14-year-old boy Aameer Ahmad Wagay was injured in a blast at a playground in Pulwama district on Monday.

Wagay was shifted to SMHS hospital here for treatment and his condition was stated to be serious, he said.

Police arrested four militants affiliated to Hizbul Mujahideen and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen groups during an operation in Shopian area of Pulwama district Sunday night.

Two AK rifles, five rockets, two rocket boosters, four ubgl grenades, 250 AK rounds, a video camera and Rs 6000 were recovered from the captured militants who are being interrogated, the spokesman said.

On a tip off, a bomb disposal squad rushed to Balole nullah near Jammu-Pathankote railway line on Monday, the sources said.

After cordoning off the area, the squad detected 10 Improvised Explosive Devices fitted in drinking water jugs and defused the explosives, they said.

The train traffic, which was stopped for about two hours, was later resumed, the sources said.
