JK: SIT formed to probe terrorist-cop nexus

The Jammu and Kashmir police has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the terrorist-cop nexus unearthed recently.

The six-member SIT headed by a superintendent of police has already begun investigations, according to a senior police officer.

In a major achievement, the state police had recently arrested a cop of the security wing of police and another person for their involvement in attacks on policemen and politicians in and around Srinagar.

With the arrest, the police had claimed to have solved 13 cases of terrorism related cases in Srinagar which occurred during last 18 months.

"The police busted a module of 'Kashmir Islamic Movement' by arresting two terrorists namely Abdul Rashid Shigan alias Molvi alias Omer Mukhtar and Imitiyaz Ahmad Gojri alias Amir," a police statement said.

"Shigan was previously selected as a trainee constable and was discharged from the police department, while undergoing basic training following his involvement in terrorist activities. He has also remained detained under Public Safety Act. He later managed to get his reinstatement orders from the court," the statement added.

Earlier in June, the state police had arrested four of its men for links with the Hizbul Mujaheedin outfit and their involvement in various terrorism related incidents.

Sources said that the police may soon detain some more cops for questioning.

"This is a serious matter and we will do everything to punish these cops for their involvement in the various incidents. The SIT will investigate all the cases related to the cop-terrorist nexus in Kashmir," the officer said wishing anonymity.

Sources also said that a screening may be also ordered to screen those suspected of links with the arrested cops and terrorists.
