October 14, 2013 15:18 IST

A Border Security Force jawan was injured on Monday when Pakistani troops again violated the ceasefire, opening fire on forward area along Indo-Pak border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

"There was sniper firing from Pakistani side on Katav Border Out Post along the International Border in Samba district around 11:30 am on Monday," a BSF officer said.

Constable M Basu was injured in the sniping incident as he was hit by bullets in the abdomen. He was shifted to hospital immediately, the officer said.

The sniping incident was followed by firing by Pakistani troops on the forward area, he said. BSF troops guarding the borderline with Pakistan took positions and retaliated effectively, triggering exchanges which are intermittently still going on.

This is the third incident of sniping from Pakistan side this year.

BSF Head Constable Ram Niwas Meena of 200th Battalion was injured in sniper firing on Narainpur BoP area in Samba district along the IB on August 5. Meena, who suffered bullet injury in his chest, died in All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi on August 11. On the same day, a Jawan received bullet injuries during sniping incident at Alfa Machial BoP in Jammu sector and he was referred to AIIMS, Delhi.
