Jigna Vora arrested without strong evidence: Vinod Tawde

July 25, 2012 18:55 IST

Opposition leader in the legislative council Vinod Tawde, alleged that the local hand in terrorism has been exposed after Abu Jundal's arrest.

He also referred to late Mumbai Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor's statement, that locals were involved in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

Alleging that the terrorist network has reached even Mantralaya, the state secretariat, he said that Abu Jundal is merely the "tip of an iceberg".

The terrorist network has reached Marathwada and western Vidharbha is fast becoming a "terrorist hub".

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader also alleged that there was no strong evidence to arrest journalist Jigna Vora, in connection with the murder of senior crime journalist J Dey. "She was arrested without strong evidence in the journalist's murder case," he said.

He also asked the government to investigate whether J Dey was killed by Chhota Rajan or fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

"J Dey had crucial information on IPL match-fixing and bookies. He was about to expose it and because of that, he was killed," he alleged. He also questioned Jigna Vora's motive to kill J Dey.

"She (Jigna) is unlikely to have killed J Dey, merely because she told him that 'you consider yourself very smart'. We want to know the real truth," he contended.

He said police claimed that they had information that Vora had made 36 calls, but they furnished records of merely three calls.

On triple murder accused Vijay Palande's escape from police custody, Tawde asked for the names of police officers who recommended his release on parole.
