July 03, 2013 23:04 IST

Just before being gunned down by Maoists along with five other policemen in Dumka district on Tuesday, Pakur SP Amarjit Balihar had called for reinforcements from the nearest police station.

"The SP phoned me to rush with additional forces. After informing the sub-divisional police officer and the state police headquarters, we rushed to the spot yesterday," Ranjit Minz, in-charge of Amarapara police station in Pakur district, told reporters.

He said it took 40 minutes to reach the ambush site of the police convoy in which the SP and other policemen were travelling at Kathikund in Dumka district bordering Pakur.

"By the time we reached, everything was finished," he said.

Later, the Kathikund police station informed Dumka range DIG and SP who also rushed to the spot.
