Besides ordering mine officials to pay up within three days, the ultras also enquired about another official, who they had abducted in April and released subsequently, police said in Jamshedpur.

A manhunt has been launched to trace the ultras, numbering around 12, who entered the loading plant when the on-duty Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan left the place reportedly before the arrival of his colleague to relieve him.

Police, who expressed surprise that the matter was brought to their notice two hours after it occurred, convened a meeting with officials of the mine.

The CISF has posted 260 personnel, including jawans and officers, for Meghahatuburu and the nearby Kiriburu mines of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL).
