Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Manoj Lall, charged with leading a police assault on JD(U) MP Devendra Prasad Yadav, was on Friday night placed under suspension, official sources said.
A Parliamentary panel had earlier recommended Lall's suspension for his alleged role during a protest by farmers earlier this week.
BJP MP V K Malhotra, who heads the parliamentary committee, said in his preliminary report presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that in order to ensure a transparent and impartial inquiry into the matter, Lall be placed under suspension till the probe is completed.
DCP R L Meena (Departmental Inquiry) has been given additional charge of New Delhi district, the sources said.
